Ontario will once again have strong representation at the 2020 Canadian Mixed Curling Championship, played Nov. 4-9 2019 in Saguenay QC, as the Ilderton Curling Club’s Team Tuck have repeated as the Brokerlink Ontario Mixed Curling champions.
The Tuck rink (comprise of Wayne Tuck, Kimberly Truck, Jake Higgs and Sara Gatchell) are no strangers to the mixed format with this championship victory marking their 5th since 2002.
Tuck carried a 5-2 record through the round robin portion of play earning them a spot in the semi-finals vs Dow, where they’d go on to win 8-4, setting up a match versus a youthful Team Sutherland in the finals. Tuck would eventually down Sutherland 8-4 in the championship match, with an early score of 4 in the third end being an essential difference maker.
The team has stayed largely uniform over five mixed championship titles. The only roster adjustment from previous seasons came in 2019 when current Ontario Tankard champion Wesley Forget threw second stones for the Tuck rink, briefly replacing Jake Higgs.
On the seniors side: the Rideau Curling Club’s Team Lachance (JP Lachance, Kathy Kerr, Michael Johansen and Andrea Ryan) took home to championship banner posting a 5-2 record, avoiding any tie breakers, and claiming sole possession of 1st after round robin play. Unlike the Brokerlink Mixed, there is no national playdowns for Senior Mixed, so a winner is declared after the duration of round robin play without playoffs.
Congratulation to all competitors!
