Championship curling is officially back in Ontario as two new provincial representatives were crowned over the weekend at the Travelers Ontario Curling Club Championships hosted by the K-W Granite Club.
Team Hogan of the Oshawa Curling Club (Amber Dawn-Duncan, Mandy Aston, Suzanne Miller and skip Stacey Hogan) took the Women’s championship while the Cornwall Curling Centre’s Team Dupuis (Charles Wert, John King, Terry Litchy, and skip Matthew Dupuis) took top honours on the men’s side.
Both finals were tightly contested affairs with Hogan downing the previously undefeated Team Shields 5-4 in the Women’s final, using the hammer in the 8th to score a single and secure the championship. On the men’s side, Dupuis vanquished Team Lawson 9-5 after surrendering a steal of one to tie the match in the 7th. Unshaken, Dupuis rallied and scored four in the 8th end to capture the victory.
Hogan and Dupuis will now represent Ontario at the Travelers National Curling Club Championships in Miramichi, NB November 19-24th, 2018. Both teams are considered heavy favourites for podium appearances at the National Championships. Ontario will vie for its 4th overall women’s Travelers gold medal and its 3rd overall on the men’s side since the event’s inception in 2009.
Best of luck to all! We’ll be watching closely and cheering you on.
