CurlON is proud of the great performances displayed by both Ontario rinks at the Canadian Junior Curling Championship in Victoria, BC.
Team Armstrong from the Rideau Curling Club went undefeated throughout the round robin, giving them a bye to Sunday’s championship final. A close game with Team Alberta came down to the last rock where Armstrong wasn’t able to convert on a tough tap on an Alberta stone.
Team Hall fought through a tiebreaker with Team Manitoba before facing off against provincial neighbour Team Northern Ontario in the semi-final. The teams needed an extra end to decide the winner, but two perfect ticks from Ontario lead David Hart helped create an open end for Hall’s last rock. Team Hall moved on to face a strong BC team in the final, leading to a tight back-and-forth game. Team BC took command with a score of 4 in the 8th end and went on to win the match.
The skill, teamwork and perseverance displayed by both Ontario rinks in Victoria brings pride to the entire province and we look forward to seeing what these young athletes accomplish in the future.
Both Ontario teams have not made the national final since 2010 when Rachel Homan and Jake Walker both won and represented Canada at World Juniors Curling Championships.
